Step-by-step install or reinstall instructions

The drop-down below contains steps to install Office on your PC (laptop, desktop, or 2-in-1), or a Mac. These steps also include instructions for how to install Office in a different language and how to install the 64-bit version of Office.

The steps to install Office are different depending on whether your Office product is part of an Office for home or Office for business plan.

Office for Home – Install on a PC

If this is a new copy of Office and you haven’t redeemed your product key (if one came with your copy) or associated it with a Microsoft account, go to office.com/setup and follow the prompts to sign in and enter your product key.

Step 1: Sign in to My Office Account to begin installing Office

1. Go to My Office Account at www.office.com/myaccount. If you’re not already signed in with the Microsoft account associated with your copy of Office do that now. If you’re signed in with a different account, sign out of that and then sign in again with the correct Microsoft account.

TIP: Your Microsoft account is the combination of an email address and password that you use to sign in to services like Hotmail, OneDrive, Windows Phone, Xbox LIVE, and Outlook.com. If you use any of these services, you already have a Microsoft account that you can use, or you can create a new account. Learn more about a Microsoft account. You must be signed in with this account to install and manage (including reinstall) your Office software.

If your sign in was unsuccessful try signing in again with the correct account, or see “This is the right place to install and re-install Office” for a list of options, including what to try if you can’t remember your Microsoft account.

  2. From the Version drop-down list, select the version, such as Office – 64-bit. If you’re not sure which version is right for you, see Choose between the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Office.
